UKEEP supports biomass-to-energy – one of the most perspective markets in Ukraine

Ukraine: 603,549 km2 of land, 45 million inhabitants. Total primary energy supply - 130.5 Mtoe (2010). More than 40% of the primary energy consumption is natural gas. Total energy import of gas and oil is 39%1. Ukraine uses around 3.2 times more energy per unit of GDP (PPP) than OECD countries2 in average. The potential of energy production from biomass is estimated to be up to 15% in the energy balance.

EBRD supports energy savings in Ukrainian agricultural sector via UKEEP and its partner banks.

Ukrainian land accounts to 30% of the world’s black soil. 70% of its 60 million hectares is agricultural land, which makes Ukraine a strong player on the global agricultural market. Since 2007 the agricultural sector was among the few ones showing constant growth during the global economic crisis. In 2012 the agricultural export amounted to USD 18 billion, increasing the share of total exports of agricultural products by 40%.

Ukeep focuses on SMEs

The first phase of UKEEP was completed successfully in 2011 with a large number of projects financed for a total loan amount of more than USD 100 million. UKEEP will continue to provide financing to energy efficiency and renewable energy projects with loan amounts of up to USD 3 million per project through Ukreximbank and Megabank.
